Christmas is all about tradition! I have a few favorites and reading with the children has been one we have done for the last 10 years. We read a Christmas book each evening before bed in the month of December. I live with Mr. Christmas (Parker) and this year we started reading our collection a little early. Parker loves Christmas and he embraces tradition and everything that goes along with Christmas.
We have collected quite the Christmas book library over the years. I wanted to share with you a few of our favorite Christmas books. I always find it fascinating how different authors and illustrators tell the Christmas story in so many different ways. Remember we celebrate Christmas which is not about who can buy the best gift, it’s about the birth of our King which is the Best Gift of all and it is FREE to all who believe.

The Tale of Three Trees by Angela Elwell Hunt

Listen to the Silent Night by Dandi Daley Mackall
It was not such a silent night when Baby Jesus was born. From baa, baa, baa of nearby sheep and the flut-flut-flutter of angel wings to the excitement that accompanies every baby’s birth, the sounds must have been extraordinary. Reverent and rhythmic, listen to the Silent Night invites you to hear those sounds and imagine that miraculous night, while gorgeous paintings set the Nativity scene and capture the splendor of the first Christmas. In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, this warm retelling serves as a gentle reminder that if we stop and listen, we might even hear the true meaning of Christmas.
Song of the Stars by Sally Lloyd-Jones
The skies shouted it to the seas that thundered it to the waves that roared it to the great white whales that sang it to the starfish in the deer. And tiny sandpipers danced it on shinning sands….”Its’ time! It’s time!” The entire universe is breathless with anticipation…The joyous news spreads out across fields, deserts, oceans- from stars, to trees, to robins to flowers. Sheep tell their young. Angel’s sing to the shepherds. And together they all join in nature’s great chorus of praise to the newborn King. The long-awaited child has come!
The Crippled Lamb by Max Lucado
Joshua was a sad spotted lamb who had no parents and felt left out. He was born with one leg that didn’t work right. Abigail the cow was his best friend. When Joshua would get sad Abigail would tell him “God has a special place for those who feel left out.” Sometimes the other lambs were not nice to him. The lambs were going to move to greener pastures with their shepherd. The Shepard told Joshua he had better go back to the stable; he did not think he could make the trip.
Joshua fell asleep in the stable but was suddenly woken up by a strange noise. Joshua woke up Abigail and said he was scared. Someone was in the stable. They looked across and found a young woman with a baby resting in a feed box. The baby was crying and he was cold. Joshua lay with the baby to keep him warm. This little baby was the new king, his name was Jesus. Joshua had been born with a crippled leg but born with a very special purpose. “God had a very special place for him.”
